01Day 1Swakopmund Dunes: Quad Bike & Sandboard AdventureMeet at the dunes operator for equipment, eligibility checks and a practical briefing. Follow the guide along the designated quad route, then take part in the supervised lie-down sandboarding session if suitable. The guide sets the pace and can alter the activity for weather or group ability. Return to the base with time to clean up and enjoy the rest of your coast stay.
Check suitability and gear
Arrive at the operator base with the booking information requested and enough time for equipment fitting. The team checks the group’s ability and explains the quad controls, helmet use, spacing and route rules. Tell staff about any relevant health, balance, back or pregnancy concern before participating. Do not treat a waiver as proof the activity is suitable for everyone. Children’s riding or tandem arrangements must be accepted by the operator in advance, with the correct equipment supplied.

Move into the dunes behind the guide at a pace suited to the group. Stay on the approved route and keep the spacing explained at the briefing; this is not an independent quad rental. The appeal lies in moving through the coastal sand and seeing its scale from ground level, without chasing speed. Wind, visibility and sand condition influence the route. Stop only as directed so other riders can remain predictable and sensitive habitat outside the route stays undisturbed.

At the selected slope, listen to the guide’s demonstration before taking a turn on the lie-down board. Position, grip and stopping instructions matter more than speed. Guests may choose to watch or rest if the slope or physical effort feels unsuitable. Walking uphill through sand can be demanding, so take water breaks and avoid pressure to match other participants. Stand-up snowboarding-style sandboarding is a different activity and is not part of this outline unless separately arranged.

Follow the guide back along the designated route and return the equipment at the base. Allow time to brush off sand and collect belongings before continuing to town. The advertised two-hour combination does not mean two full hours of riding, since the sandboarding session forms part of the activity. If conditions prevent a safe session, the operator decides on a cancellation or adjustment under the terms confirmed at booking. A separate ecology outing can add a different, slower view of the dunes.
